Zurich Financial Services Australia (Zurich) has appointed Alex Morgan as head of general insurance for Australia and New Zealand.
Morgan is currently the chief risk officer of Zurich Asia Pacific (APAC). He has previously led GI Retail (SME) and Cover-More businesses in Australia and New Zealand. He also served as the head of specialty for APAC, chief underwriting officer, global corporate for Japan, and the head of financial institutions and management liability in the UK.
Morgan will remain in Sydney in the new role.
Justin Delaney, chief executive officer of Zurich Australia and New Zealand, welcomed Morgan to the team.
“I am very pleased to welcome Alex to our leadership team. As the only major composite – life and general – insurer in the market, this is a critical appointment,” Delaney said. “With a strong understanding of the local market, together with broad global and regional experience, Alex will bring both continuity and a fresh perspective as we seek to further advance our customer offering and competitive position.”
Newly created role
Morgan’s appointment follows the promotion of Sean Walker to the newly created role of head of commercial insurance (CI) and chief technical officer for APAC.
Walker will join Zurich’s global CI team, become a member of the Zurich leadership team, and move from Australia to Singapore. He will work with local markets and be responsible for the company’s regional GI strategy while consolidating and enhancing the company’s underwriting and claims capabilities in the APAC region.
Delaney said: “I want to congratulate and thank Sean for his excellent leadership of the GI business in Australia & New Zealand. As testament to his extensive experience and deep expertise, Sean’s appointment represents both a fantastic professional opportunity and, more importantly, a meaningful and important strategic step for Zurich in the region.”
Both appointments will take effect on August 01, 2023.
