Wings of change: easyJet offsetting all carbon emissions from fuel

easyJet offsetting all carbon emissions from fuel

Going on holiday is great. But exploring the planet shouldn’t jeopardise its future. So it’s fantastic news that easyJet has become the world’s first major airline to offset the carbon emissions from the fuel used for every flight.

Here’s to foreign travel

New sights and sounds, new cultures and cuisines. The opportunity to simply get away from it all. Foreign travel is fantastic. But air travel has its impact on the environment, which can leave you with a predicament if you have resolved to double down on your efforts for Mother Nature in 2020.

Good news: easyJet has become the world’s first major airline to offset the carbon emissions from the fuel used for every single flight. There’s no extra cost to you. You don’t need to opt in to anything as a customer. They just do it, removing one tonne of carbon from the atmosphere for every tonne of CO2 their planes emit.

How easyJet is helping to remove carbon from the atmosphere

easyJet offsets the carbon it produces from fuel used by investing in projects designed to tackle the carbon problem. They include planting trees (reforestation), protecting against deforestation, renewable energy production and more. (You can find out more here.)

All of the carbon offsetting projects that easyJet invest in meet either the Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) accreditation. So you can fly with a conscience as clear as the skies are at 35,000 feet.

An eco-friendly flying future?

Carbon offsetting is a big step forward. But it would be even better if air travel produced less carbon in the first place. easyJet is doing its bit there too, championing the development of electric aircraft technology. They have also added the Airbus A321neo to their fleet, their most eco-friendly aircraft yet.

So where will it be?

easyJet fly to some fabulous places. Such as Barcelona, Paris, Berlin and Milan. Or how about Helsinki, Stockholm or Copenhagen? Fancy some sun? Then jet off to Antalya, Crete or Sicily. easyJet has dozens of destinations covered. And you can fly out of Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Isle of Man, Jersey, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Southampton.

Options. Lots of options.

Any other carbon offsetting airlines?

It’s important to note that there are other airlines with offsetting options, though some are better than others and you may have to pay extra if you want to offset your share of the carbon. Those airlines include Qantas, Virgin Australia, Emirates, Delta Airlines, British Airways, Jetstar and Air New Zealand.

Positive change is taking place. And that’s something we can all smile about.
