What the Extended Licensing Hours for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee means for Clubs
Licensing Hours Extended for club premises
Parliament have passed an order to extend licensing hours in pubs, clubs and bars across England and Wales. Pubs may continue to serve alcohol, continue celebrations, up until 1am. This will be in effect on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June in order to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Home Office Minister, Kit Malthouse said it would allow revelers to commemorate the coronation of the longest-reigning monarch in the United Kingdom.
The Government will publish the impact and results of the exception for all to see and review. This has been done for previous times where licensing hours were extended, including The Queen’s 90th Birthday. The World Cup and the Jubilee in 2012.
The Government has stipulated that these measures do not apply to the sale of alcohol off the premises. Unlicensed premises would not benefit from a relaxation in licensing hours and would still need to use a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) to undertake licensee activities. A TEN costs around £21.00 and must be submitted at least 10 working days before the event begins. To receive a Temporary Event Notice for a Jubilee event or for any event, see Insure Our Event.
Does the Extended Licensing Hours increase risks to your club?
The potential risks of extending licensing hours includes the impact on enforcement agencies and potential for third-party damages or accidents, injury and damages to your premises.
Alcohol-related crime and disorder accounts for more than half the societal costs of alcohol and, while the number of alcohol-related violent incidents have been falling consistently, they have tended to account for between 40% and 50% of all violent incidents, according to the Government’s report.
However, the Kit Malthouse and the Government believe that any risk of additional disorder in relation to the licensing hours extension is low. And although the plans for extension were mooted in January, they have now been instated.
