Watch A Dodge Challenger Demon 170 Smoke A Chevy Camaro SS Over A Quarter Mile

The Dodge Challenger Demon 170 was built to celebrate the end of Dodge’s internal combustion muscle cars and, along the way, smoke a few of its rivals on the drag strip in the process. Now, the sold-out monster has finally been spied at a race track where it did just that, leaving a Chevrolet Camaro SS in its dust.

The Demon 170 was announced by Dodge a little over a year ago, packing in an E85-powered engine that kicks out 1,025 horsepower, boasting a zero to 60 time of 1.66 seconds and reportedly able to pull two Gs while accelerating. So far, we haven’t seen just what all that power looks like on the drag strip, until now.

A race between the Demon 170 and a couple of its rivals has been brought to our attention by the folks over at AutoEvolution, who uncovered footage of the formidable muscle car at Mission Raceway Park in British Columbia, Canada:

The videographer behind the Wheels Plus channel on YouTube is a big fan of Mission Raceway Park, also known as MRP or ‘Thunder by the River.’ While there, he caught a glimpse of the Demon 170 via a decidedly conspicuous example: a purple unit with the Demon graphics on the side and a big ‘170′ written in crimson on the rear fender plus ‘Dodge’ plastered all over the front bumper.

Plus, the competition number written in chalk on the windshield also has the nickname ‘Dom’ alongside it, just in case you didn’t know who loves Mopars at Hollywood! Anyway, in the other lane first came along a more inconspicuous sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro dressed in black and identified as an SS variant. Obviously, a Camaro SS is no match for a Demon 170, but no one should assume anything before the race because we’ve seen hidden mods produce enough surprises at the dragstrip.

In the video captured by the Wheels Plus YouTube channel, the vibrant purple Demon 170 lines up on the quarter-mile against a sinister black Chevrolet Camaro SS before taking on a heavily modified blue pickup from the olden days. Any guesses on the results for these two races?

Demon 170 vs Camaro SS

The Demon won, obviously. Despite having a claimed quarter mile time of less than nine seconds, according to Dodge, the muscle car ran a 9.81s versus the Camaro’s 12.37s. When round two rolled around against the blue truck, the Challenger managed 10.01s against the truck’s 13.36s.
