Vero and GIO have announced the winners of the 15th edition of the RM Advancer Awards, an annual awarding event held to recognise outstanding performance and exceptional achievements of businesses in the field of risk management.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Melbourne Royal and Oak Possability topped in the categories Commercial, Small and Medium Enterprise, and Workers Compensation and Public Liability, respectively. Each of them was awarded up to $2,000 to contribute toward risk management through training or development.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services implemented a robust fleet risk management strategy across the entire organisation that helped achieve a significant decline in frequency and severity of incidents. Melbourne Royal designed a formalised risk management framework that addressed many unique challenges encountered in operating multiple events across an extensive site. Oak Possability implemented an injury prevention program for their workforce supporting customers with a wide range of physical, emotional and medical needs.

Risk management post-pandemic

Following a brief hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the RM Advancer Awards has resumed celebrating the initiatives of businesses and their teams in improving risk culture through disaster-prevention strategies, team efforts, or investments.

“Whether big business or small, the past few years have been particularly difficult for so many Australian companies. Attempting to manage such a wide array of risk factors across this unpredictable time was an incredible challenge for our clients,” said David Hoffmann, EGM for commercial with Suncorp Group.

“Given the challenges companies and their people were faced with, it’s important we recognise and celebrate the effective risk practices that were executed over this time, and we feel we did just that on our awards night. We have three truly deserving winners this year and one common theme that undeniably stood out to the judges was the innovative approach to tackle their own unique set of risk management challenges.”
