Newest member is the son of an Air Force veteran

USAA has announced the appointment of Ross Buchmueller (pictured above) to its board of directors.

The military insurance provider said that with over 35 years of experience in the insurance sector and personal ties to the military through his Air Force veteran father, Buchmueller is uniquely positioned to understand and address the needs of military families.

Buchmueller’s professional journey includes the establishment of PURE Insurance, a company dedicated to insuring high-value assets, which now serves 113,000 member-owners. His career began at Chubb as an underwriter, progressing to senior positions including head of marketing and sales for personal insurance.

Additionally, he also previously led AIG’s private client group, which became one of the company’s most rapidly expanding divisions.

USAA board chairman Vice Admiral James M. Zortman, USN (ret.), remarked on the appointment and its importance to the group.

“Ross’ industry and military acumen will serve USAA’s members well, blending proven business strategies with an ability to innovate to meet the changing needs of the military community and their families. He is an exceptional and visionary leader, with expertise that will help shape how we provide value to our members and continue USAA’s 102-year legacy of service,” he said.

Buchmueller shared his personal connection and commitment to USAA as he becomes the latest director to sit on its board.

“I’m a proud son of an Air Force father, and USAA is a trusted partner to my family and so many others who’ve worn the uniform,” Buchmueller said. “I’ve always admired USAA’s member-first approach, so it’s truly an honor to join the board and play a role in delivering on the mission.”

In other recent developments, USAA has announced the donation of four National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides in support of veterans, as well as their communities. The program aims to provide reliable transportation to veterans and their families, with restored cars to be given to deserving military families.
