The Lloyd’s underwriting room has reopened for face-to-face trading after being closed for 10 weeks for refurbishment.

The underwriting room and Galleries One and Two were closed from July 10 to September 17. Gallery Three and the rest of the iconic Lloyd’s building in London remained open at the time.

In an update, the centuries-old insurance marketplace said: “The ground floor and Galleries One and Two have reopened, and we welcome 13 additional managing agents to the ground floor of the underwriting room. Our popular tours will recommence from September 25.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support over the summer refurbishment, and we look forward to you settling back into the room.”

Lloyd’s Market Association chief executive Sheila Cameron said in a statement sent to Insurance Business: “The Lloyd’s Market Association is especially proud to have worked hand in hand with Lloyd’s in modernising this historic London industry as it reopens and unveils the refurbished underwriting room.

“For hundreds of years, the underwriting room has been the heart of the marketplace, and this revitalised trading floor reflects the sector’s dedication both to preserving tradition and embracing the future.

“As the floor reopens, we know that the global insurance community will use this space and continue to build a more resilient, interconnected, and sustainable future.”
