True Heroes Racing, the UK’s first motorcycle racing team dedicated to supporting wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, are celebrating their 14th year on the track.

But these incredible individuals are not just setting an example on the track, they’re also helping to progress motorsport away from it too.

The team races in some of the country’s biggest motorcycle competitions such as the British Superbike Superstock 1000 and the British Supersport Championship.

However, this blog will look at how the team helps beneficiaries away from the track.

Raising awareness of the injured, sick and wounded

The team attends numerous events throughout the year to help raise awareness of the number of beneficial activities available to wounded, injured and sick UK service personnel and veterans who have been in the armed forces and are in need.

With many of the team’s drivers and members being wounded ex-service personnel themselves they hope to help inspire their peers and raise awareness of the problems military and veterans may be suffering from.

Helping those with physical and mental health problems

Whilst True Heroes do not profess to be medical experts in this field, they are able to use their personal experience to help identify initial signs that people may be struggling.

With a detailed contact network to expert organisations who can help, they are able to signpost beneficiaries when the need arises to access more specialist assistance.

Motorcycle race builds

Whilst being the one of the most unique teams on the track, True Heroes Racing are not one of the richest, which is why they convert road-going bikes into race specification models in-house.

Whether these are high end British Superbike Championship motorcycles, or those for learning to race on and competing at a grassroots level, this provides opportunities for riders to get hands-on in a much less pressurised environment.

Members can learn engineering skills and gain deeper knowledge, as well as being afforded the opportunity to gain the satisfaction of seeing their end product circulating on the race track.

Motorcycle maintenance

Maintaining race motorcycles to the highest standards between races is a crucial part of the machine. This provides another opportunity for True Heroes Racing to provide technical mentorship to learn basic motorcycle maintenance skills in a low pressure environment, whilst gaining valuable work experience.

Being a member of the organisation also provides military personnel with a new social contact network, where group and private conversations can take place. Thus providing attendees with the ability to communicate with like-minded people who have a shared interest, while enabling them to discuss any issues or problems they may have with their peers.

Who are True Heroes Racing?

True Heroes Racing are a British motorcycle racing team who compete in some of the most prestigious motorsport competitions in the world under the guise of the British Superbike Championships series. They are the only all-disabled team to do so.

Their mantra is “to engage, empower and inspire” the disabled and disadvantaged community. They do this through training, mentoring and assistance as part of a team that includes able-bodied and wounded, injured and sick (WIS) UK service personnel and veterans, enabling them to take a full and active part in competitive motorsport.
