Specialty insurance provider Trisura Group has made a series of senior management appointments.

Announcing the changes, Trisura president and chief executive David Clare said: “Through Trisura’s growth, we have enjoyed the benefit of strong leadership across our underwriting entities. As part of our evolution to a larger and more integrated North American specialty platform, I am excited to highlight important members of the team who will continue to drive our business forward.”

Richard Grant, who has been with Trisura Canada since its beginning, was appointed as chief underwriting officer. He previously led the corporate insurance practice and most recently held the position of chief operating officer for Canada.

Grant’s new role includes strategic leadership and oversight of underwriting and program structuring across North America, as well as reinsurance and the development of the US corporate insurance business.

Meanwhile, Phillip Shirtliff, who comes from Manulife Financial, joins as chief risk officer. Shirtliff will lead Trisura’s risk function and enterprise risk management, working closely with local risk officers. With an actuarial background, he previously headed Manulife Canada’s insurance risk function and managed a team in charge of global model risk management.

Chris Sekine, who has led Trisura Canada for the past five years, will transition to an executive director position on the board of Trisura Canada at the end of the year. He will retain responsibility for strategic initiatives, growth, reinsurance, and distribution. As part of succession planning, Grant will assume the role of Canada CEO in 2025.

In the US, two recent arrivals were cited by the company.

Referring to US chief financial officer Allison Kenworthy, who joined last year from Nautilus Insurance Group, Trisura highlighted: “Since joining, her impact and leadership continues to improve our infrastructure and will be an important contributor in the continuing development of our US surety and corporate insurance platforms as well as ongoing expansion of US fronting.”

Additionally, Micah Gautreaux, general counsel for Trisura US, recently made the switch from Horace Mann Insurance Company. Gautreaux will head the US legal function, supporting both US fronting and the expanding US surety and corporate insurance platforms.
