Specialist insurer Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has launched a cyber and enterprise risk division as part of its strategic expansion into the cyber market.

The division will be headed by Laila Khudairi and will combine expertise in cyber, technology, and intellectual property (IP).

TMK has been actively underwriting cyber risk since 2006. Recently, the team collaborated with TMK’s life sciences division to develop IntelliMed, a product that combines cyber and intellectual property coverage with life sciences insurance in a single policy.

TMK also recently announced the appointment of Luke Fardell as a cybersecurity specialist. Fardell brings extensive experience from his previous roles in intelligence for the UK Ministry of Defence and leadership in digital forensics investigations and incident response at the National Cyber Security Centre. The team was further strengthened by the addition of cyber underwriters Luke Ogunlaja and Kieran Shiret last year, with plans for additional hires in the near future.

“We have ambitious plans for cyber and IP, and this restructuring aligns with our objectives,” Khudairi said. “Our underwriting team prides itself on its technical expertise and exceptional client service. As cyber threats, including ransomware attacks and data breaches, continue to rise in frequency and complexity, we remain dedicated to providing our clients with cutting-edge tools and services to proactively address these challenges.”

In addition to the newly established cyber and enterprise risk division, Tokio Marine Kiln operates several standalone underwriting divisions, including property and motor, liability, special risks, marine and energy, aviation, and portfolio solutions.
