The New 2025 Chevy Equinox Is Unrelated To The 2025 Chevy Equinox EV

Chevy’s best-selling SUV, the Equinox, is finally set to receive a redesign for 2025 that further separates it from the Equinox EV. It’s now more in line with the rest of the Chevy SUV and truck lineup, almost coming across as a mini Traverse — but in a good way. The brand’s vice president Scott Bell said, “The 2025 Equinox brings to one of our most important nameplates bodylines and proportions inspired by our brand’s truck DNA, also adopted in the upcoming Traverse.”

With the redesign, the Equinox grows 2.3 inches wider than the outgoing generation. Depending on which trim you choose, it’ll determine how stylish your Equinox is. Chevy is giving the 2025 Equinox three familiar trims.

There’s the base LT, which can be had with chrome or a gloss black grille.

The midlevel RS brings sporty elements like black mirror caps, bow tie emblems, and a wider grille. You also get the choice between 19- or optional 20-inch wheels which is honestly insane for a vehicle the size of the Equinox.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox ACTIV

And new for 2025 is the top-of-the-line Equinox ACTIV. The ACTIV gets outdoorsy, off-road design features like blacked-out badging, “rugged” (Chevy’s words not mine) front fascia, trim-specific interior color with “ACTIV” embroidery on the front headrests, two-tone exterior paint and off-road tires. There’s also selectable drive modes: front-wheel drive models get normal and snow modes while all-wheel drive ACTIVs get an additional off-road mode.

Inside, Chevy is following industry trends with huge screens all around. The driver gets an 11-inch display along with an 11.3-inch center infotainment display running GM’s controversial new operating system with Google built in. Other unique interior features include a new column-mounted shifter, hidden rear cargo spaces that give you a total of 63.5 cubic feet of space (with both seats folded which is actually 0.4 cubic feet less than the outgoing model) and “engaging tactile materials,” whatever that means. There’s also a full suite of driver safety aids as well.

While most of the Equinox is all new, one thing that’s been carried over from the outgoing model is the engine. The 2025 Equinox is powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 175 horsepower. Transmissions are all new, however. If you choose front-wheel drive you get stuck with a CVT; all-wheel drive models get an eight-speed automatic. You can also tow up to 1,500 pounds with this engine if you need to. Other than the all-new features, this ‘25 Equinox shares absolutely nothing with its EV cousin except the name, which is kind of unfortunate.

Chevy isn’t talking pricing or any other details just yet. But the 2025 Equinox is set to go into production in Mexico before it goes on sale later this year.
