Suncorp Group has been recognised in the Australian Association of Graduate Employers’ survey, securing the sixth spot in the “Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance Industry” category, and ranking 16th overall in the “Top 20 Intern Employers – Medium Program” category.

In February, the association requested its member organisations, including Suncorp, to distribute a survey to their 2024 intern participants.

The insurer’s cohort included 42 interns, with four being First Nations “Career Tracker” interns, who participated in the 12-week program from November 2023 to January 2024.

The survey received over 2,400 responses. Using an algorithm, the association assessed and ranked employers based on various criteria.

The anonymous survey asked interns to rate their experience in categories including induction and training, work content, project diversity, supervision quality, responsibility, senior management access, performance feedback, social activities, and organisational culture and values.

Suncorp graduate lead Kelly Pfeffer acknowledged the achievement and emphasised the efforts made to enhance the internship program.

She highlighted the introduction of a community volunteer day and professional development workshops as key improvements. The program also offered networking opportunities such as “meet and greets” with senior leaders and platforms for interns to showcase their work to the company’s leadership.

She expressed appreciation for the internship, citing substantial work responsibilities, networking opportunities, community engagement, and a supportive workplace culture. During her internship, she worked as a business analyst in motor claims, focusing on process improvements.

“I work on enhancements; we essentially focus on improving the processes used to handle claims and ensure the tools and systems used are continuously improving for our customers,” she said. “I’ve heard about other internship programs from peers, who describe them as ‘fly on the wall’ placements, where they aren’t involved in key projects. I love how the Suncorp program provides the opportunity to gain a real insight to the corporate world. My work was always changing, and a lot of fun.”

Suncorp is now accepting expressions of interest for its 2025 Graduate and Intern Program. It recently hosted its annual Graduate Conference, aimed at facilitating networking, skill development, and professional growth.

The next intern program begins on Nov. 18, 2024, and the graduate program starts on Jan. 28, 2025. Prospective candidates can express their interest online to be notified when applications open in early August.
