Suncorp Group (Suncorp) has earned Silver Tier Recognition under the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI).

The AWEI is widely regarded as the national standard for assessing LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion practices across various industries.

The Silver Tier status is attributed to the dedication of the Suncorp Amplify Employee Resource Group (ERG) and its advocates within the organisation.

At the annual Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards ceremony, several Suncorp Group employees were present, including Amplify ERG co-chair Livi Sinden and group diversity & inclusion manager Catherina Behan, both of whom received nominations for individual awards.

Sinden, serving as a senior insights advisor at Suncorp, was a nominee for the Sally Webster Award, recognising her contributions as an LGBTQ+ ally within Suncorp and the broader community.

“This accomplishment is the result of the unwavering dedication of the Amplify ERG committee, coupled with the extensive support and collaboration from so many different areas of the business,” Sinden said.

Behan was shortlisted for the Sapphire Inspire Award and nominated for the LGBTQ+ Role Model Award for her work in promoting workplace inclusion and visibility at Suncorp.

“Silver tier accreditation as an LGBTQ+ inclusive organisation is a fantastic recognition of Suncorp’s commitment to diversity and inclusion,” Behan said.

A key element in Suncorp’s recognition this year was the inclusion of LGBTQ+ friendly language in employee policies and resources, such as the domestic and family violence policy.

Group executive people, culture & advocacy Fiona Thompson acknowledged the recognition as a testament to the dedication and passion of Suncorp’s employees.

“I’d especially like to recognise Amplify for their involvement, and for the continuous commitment they’ve shown to championing diversity and inclusion for our people across the organisation,” she said.

Last month, Suncorp was recognised for its internship program, securing the sixth spot in the “Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance Industry” category, and ranking 16th overall in the “Top 20 Intern Employers – Medium Program” category.
