Sun Life Singapore has announced the appointment of Christopher Albrecht as the new chief executive officer, effective from Jan. 1.

Albrecht will be stationed in Singapore, where he will be tasked with guiding the strategic and operational aspects of Sun Life Singapore. His role will emphasise fostering sustainable growth, diversifying the business model, and nurturing top talent.

His expertise spans the high-net-worth (HNW) banking, insurance, and brokerage sectors, offering a well-rounded perspective on the market. Originally from the United Kingdom, Albrecht moved to Singapore in 2005, and later to Hong Kong in 2017, deepening his understanding of the Asian insurance landscape.

This appointment is a key strategic move for Sun Life Singapore, which has experienced notable momentum in 2023. This includes recognition for their innovative SunBrilliance Indexed Universal Life solution, which has received several industry accolades. The company has also achieved a significant milestone, having collected over S$500 million in premiums since April 2021, and aims to maintain its growth trajectory in the upcoming year.

Albrecht will report to Karim Gilani, president of Greater China, Singapore, and international high net worth at Sun Life Financial.

“We are delighted to welcome Christopher to the team as we embark on the new year ahead of us, ripe with opportunities for our Singapore business amid rising wealth inflows and strong demand for wealth preservation,” Gilani said. “Christopher’s diverse background and international exposure make him an ideal fit for Sun Life Singapore’s next stages of growth. I am confident that with his leadership and extensive industry knowledge, we will drive greater success for the business, further unlock value for our partners and clients, and cement our status as the leading insurer for HNW insurance in Asia.”
