Sultan Of Brunei’s Wild Lamborghini LM002 ‘Wagon’ Is For Sale
It’s not often that one of the Sultan of Brunei’s cars comes up for sale, even though he has thousands of them. However, today is the automotive world’s lucky day because one of his custom creations — a one-off 1986 Lamborghini LM002 “Wagon” — is being auctioned off for the very first time.
Brooklyn Coachworks Builds The World’s Coolest Defenders
Every other LM002 built between 1986 and 1993 used a 5.2-liter V12 from the Countach wrapped in a very boxy pickup truck body. In an effort to be unique, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah hired coachbuilder Salvatore Diamante to convert his LM002 into a closed wagon with a raised roof. If you ask me, this is the first actual Lamborghini SUV, and it’s being listed for sale on Supercar Blondie’s auction site, SBX Cars. In total, three of these “Wagons” were built, but no one has any idea where the hell the other two are, so this very well may be the only one in the world.
The exterior of this LM002 isn’t the only thing that underwent some major alterations – the interior has been heavily revised as well. The second row gained a big ol’ center console with a TV, VCR and a DVD player was added later to modernize it a bit. The cargo area – where the bed once was – is now fitted with a U-shaped bench and a bunch of speakers that don’t look all that nice. Up front, there haven’t been too many changes – maybe a few more wood trim pieces but it’s just about the same as a stock LM002.
Because this is a nearly 40-year-old Italian car, it’s not totally perfect, but it’s pretty good nevertheless. SBX Cars’ listing mentioned some cracks on the leather seats and some scuffs and bubbles on the Argento Metallizzato paint – which has been redone. It is still running on its original 345-width tires, which isn’t good. But, a new set is going to be included in the sale Luckily, it does come with an extensive service history so you’ll know just how much it costs to keep one of these things going.
The truck is still completely stock under the hood with its original 5.2-liter V12 that pumps out 444 horsepower and 368 pound feet of torque. It’s mated up to a five-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels. That’s enough power to send this massive truck from 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and onto a 130 mph top speed. It also boasts just 6,450 miles on the clock. She’s pretty much brand new.
After the Sultan put 1,100 miles on the LM002 Wagon, it was shipped to Germany and sold to former Volkswagen and BMW CEO Bernd Pischetsrieder. Later, it was purchased by a Swedish woman who used it to take her kids to school. That is so damn badass. The truck has been in Sweden ever since.
Anyway, if this LM002 Wagon is speaking to your heart, you can bid on it on SBX Cars starting on August 7.
