State Senate Confirms Gov. Hochul’s Pick to Head NY Department of Financial Services

On Tuesday, January 25th, the New York State Senate voted to confirm Adrienne Harris as Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services (the “NY DFS”).  Harris had served as acting superintendent of the NY DFS since being nominated for the full-time position by Gov. Kathy Hochul in August of 2021.

Harris notably served in the Obama administration, where she was appointed as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, as part of the National Economic Council.  After leaving the White House in January 2017, Harris was the general counsel and chief business officer at DOMA, Inc., which provides title insurance and settlement services.

In a press release issued by the NY DFS, Harris stated: “I am honored to serve as the Superintendent of the Department of Financial Services. As the first African American woman to lead DFS, I am personally committed to working with all stakeholders to build a robust, fair and sustainable financial system, creating a better economic future for all New Yorkers.”
