Sompo International has announced the opening of its first Canadian branch in Toronto, with Rohan Dixon appointed as president and chief executive officer, commercial P&C insurance, Canada.
The establishment of Sompo International’s Canadian office allows the company to write domestic commercial and specialty lines risks within the country.
Additionally, through its multinational platform, the new branch allows Sompo International to place risks internationally for its Canadian clients.
As head of the Canadian branch, Dixon will focus on developing and implementing strategies for the commercial insurance business across the country. He will report to Christopher Sparro, chief executive officer, North America commercial P&C insurance.
In a Press release, Sparro expressed pride in expanding on the foundation established by Sompo Japan over the past 25 years.
“We are thrilled to have Rohan lead the way for our commercial insurance business in Canada where he can utilize his depth of experience and insight in this market,” Sparro added.
Dixon joins Sompo International with over 25 years of industry experience. His most recent role was with Aon, serving as the executive vice president and chief strategy officer of its reinsurance operations in Canada and the Caribbean. Before that, he was global president and CEO at Aon Inpoint Consulting.
“I am thrilled to be working alongside our global leadership team in bringing Sompo International to Canada,” said Dixon. “Together with Melissa Plaxton, our newly appointed chief operating officer for Canada, we are building a robust offering in the country and are assembling an expert team of local underwriters and claims professionals.
“I am looking forward to bringing Sompo International’s strong reputation of collaboration, portfolio diversity and providing dynamic solutions for clients and brokers to the Canadian market.”
