Report proposes 'self-funding' insurance model for export industries

Newly appointed SLE Worldwide Australia CEO Raj Nanra has started in the role, taking over from Brad French, who left the underwriting agency at the end of last year.

Mr Nanra will be responsible for the leadership, strategic delivery and sustainable financial result of the Sydney-based underwriting agency and Lloyd’s coverholder that provides a broad range of specialty property and casualty products, with a focus on the sports, leisure, and entertainment markets.

He says he looks forward to working alongside the firm’s “extremely talented” individuals in driving the business forward.

“SLE continues to deliver solid growth,” Mr Nanra told insuranceNEWS.com.au today. “This is a testimony to the strength of the business and the SLE team as we continue to also focus on our customers’ needs.”

Mr Nanra was most recently CEO of Steadfast-owned premium funder IQumulate with responsibility for the general oversight, management, and strategic development of the business. He left in February last year.

He has more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry, including as Zurich General Insurance CEO from January 2016 to May 2018 before joining IQumulate, according to his LinkedIn account.

Global specialty re/insurer Chaucer Group, which acquired SLE in 2017, says it is “excited” to have Mr Nanra joining the business.

“His strong record of successful business and product development and strategic planning will be invaluable to SLE and the Chaucer Group,” CEO John Fowle said.

When Chaucer made the SLE acquisition, Mr Fowle said the new addition was an “excellent strategic fit” for the business.

“It will enable us to increase our presence in this important market, giving us greater access to high-quality business and bringing us closer to our customers, while providing for a broader distribution of other Chaucer products in the future,” he said.
