SCOR, the France-headquartered global reinsurance company, has promoted longstanding retrocession and third-party capital partnerships executive Benoît Liot to the new role of Head of Risk Partnerships, which will see him lead on activities with third-party investors, while retrocession will be centralised beneath his leadership.

Liot’s most recent position at SCOR was as Chief Retrocession Officer, a role he was promoted into back in 2020.

In that position, he has been leading on all insurance-linked securities (ILS), catastrophe bond and sidecar issuances for SCOR Global P&C.

Now, his new role as Head of Risk Partnerships also sees life retrocession activities at SCOR centralised beneath him.

SCOR has been transitioning from a pure risk carrier approach to one where risk partnerships are vital to the company, tapping into third-party investor appetite both for retrocessional needs, as well as sharing reinsurance risk premiums generated by its underwriting with risk partners.

This is being achieved through the use of insurance-linked securities (ILS) and building on top of long-standing retrocession partnerships with ILS funds and large institutional investors.

The risk partnerships provide valuable capacity, so SCOR can do more for its clients, while also allowing it to align with third-party capital providers and investors, to assist in managing its own capital, exposures and returns.

As a result, it’s all about optimising risk and capital to deliver the best possible returns to its clients, stakeholders and risk capital partners.

Under SCOR’s current Forward 2026 strategic plan, the goal is to make risk partnerships even more important, including to double the fee income earned from these ILS style initiatives by the end of the plan that year.

Benoît Liot has stepped into the role of Head of Risk Partnerships this month, we understand.

Before joining SCOR in 2016 as a retrocession account manager, Liot spent over two years at AXA Investment Managers as an analyst in the ILS portfolio management team there.

Prior to that, Liot worked at PartnerRe in catastrophe underwriting, modelling and capital roles for almost five years, and spent over two years at Paris Re as a cat modeller as well.
