IB is very pleased to be staging this year’s awards at one of Sydney’s historic buildings: The Fullerton Hotel in Martin Place. The National Trust regards this building as “one of Australia’s most beautiful.”

The glitz and glamour includes a pre-awards cocktail reception, red carpet, dinner banquet and awards ceremony and an evening of live entertainment.

Twenty-five awards categories

The hard work of brokers, insurers, underwriters and authorized representatives (ARs), both firms and individuals, will be recognized across a total of 25 prestigious categories.

In early July, after an arduous selection process, Insurance Business announced the 2023 excellence awardees. Click here to see the shortlist of the performers who came out on top in each awards category.

A single winner from each shortlisted category will be announced and honoured on the big night.

CHU: nominated for Underwriting Agency of the Year

“CHU [CHU Underwriting Agencies] is thrilled to have been nominated for the Underwriting Agency of the Year,” said Kimberley Jonsson (pictured immediately below), CHU’s CEO.

The other nominees in this tough category are: Agile Underwriting Services, ARAG Australia, Emergence Insurance, GT Insurance, Pen Underwriting, Solution Underwriting Agency and Underwriting Agencies of Australia

“This is a wonderful recognition of the hard work and passion that each and every CHU team member puts in each day,” said Jonsson. “Congratulations to all the nominees.”

Event Partner: UAC

The sponsor of that award – and this year’s Awards Premium Partner – is the Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC).

“UAC is proud to sponsor the Underwriting Agency of the Year award,” said CEO Jenny Bax. “The recipient represents the pinnacle of professionalism in client service and underwriting across the many underwriting agencies operating in the Australian market.”

The representative organisation for Australia’s agencies, a longtime supporter of the event, is also sponsoring a second award: Underwriting Agency BDM of the Year.

“Agencies thrive on their ability to build relationships with brokers and keep the market well informed about their products and service levels,” said Bax. “A well-rounded, professional BDM is the key to achieving that, which is why UAC is so proud to sponsor this award.”

Merrick Watts is your host

The awards will be hosted by comedian, radio and television presenter, Merrick Watts. Watts is likely best known for his stand-up comedy performances and his role as one half of the comedy duo Merrick & Rosso (Tim Ross). He’s a regular on Australian radio. In 2020, Watts also took part in a physically and psychologically demanding training course for his appearance in Channel 7’s SAS: Australia.

Party Band are back!

SongDivision is returning to the awards as Entertainment Partner. Their Party Band is providing the evening’s music. These musicians have worked with stars including Aerosmith, Guns N Roses and John Farnham.

A tradition in the making

This year’s awards event is the sixth annual celebration. The event gives high achieving brokers, brokerages, insurers, underwriting agencies, BDMs and service providers the chance to be showcased on a national stage – and the rest of the industry the opportunity to celebrate them and have fun.

Winning at the Insurance Business Australia Awards means joining the ranks of the best and brightest in the insurance industry. Take a look back at the 2021 winners in the official commemorative guide.

Thanks to the awards’ sponsors

IB would also like to extend a special thanks to the awards sponsors for supporting this event and encouraging insurance excellence.

Young Gun sponsor: AXA XL

For the fifth year, AXA XL is sponsoring the Young Gun of the Year– International Award.

“Insurance is often overlooked as a career choice – we need to keep attracting talent as well as celebrating and supporting the development of the passionate individuals who are contributing to the future of insurance in Australia,” said Sydney-based Catherine Carlyon, the firm’s country manager for Australia.

Underwriting Agency Claims sponsor: Wilbur

The Underwriting Agency Claims Team of the Year is sponsored by Wilbur, the insurance claims technology company.

“Claims departments have been integral in assisting policyholders and providing peace of mind when disaster strikes,” said Brisbane-based James Pepplinkhouse, Wilbur’s chief technology officer. “The insurance world is nothing without the claims teams supporting it – and many insurance professionals know this too well.”

The other event sponsors are: AAMC, CHU Underwriting Agencies, Innovation Group and QBE.
