OneDegree Group has announced two significant appointments, with Michelle Ip (pictured above left) named CEO of OneDegree Global, the technology division of the group, while Robin Scott (pictured above right) has been appointed general manager of OneDegree Middle East.
Ip’s appointment places her at the helm of a division responsible for IXT modern insurance core solutions and Cymetrics cybersecurity services. Based in Singapore, OneDegree Global is known for its AI-powered solutions provided to insurers and enterprises worldwide.
According to her LinkedIn, she brings over a decade of experience in insurance and insurtech startups, having played a significant role in Manulife’s establishment of the first insurance company in Cambodia in 2012 and being a founding member of iFWD of FWD Hong Kong.
Her fintech startup, Sugar AI, was also notably integrated into bolttech. She joined OneDegree in 2022 as chief commercial officer, expanding its reach into various Asian countries. She holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics.
“Michelle’s dedication, strategic approach, and unwavering commitment to our mission have been pivotal,” said Alex Leung, co-founder of OneDegree Group. “Her deep understanding of our technology business and culture uniquely positions her to lead us into a future of success. As we take on ambitious 2024 targets, we’re not just aiming to meet them – we’re gearing up to surpass them under Michelle’s leadership.”
In line with OneDegree Group’s expansion strategy, Scott has been appointed general manager of OneDegree Middle East. The division has already made strides in the region since 2023, including a key partnership with Dubai Insurance for digital asset insurance and a strategic investment from the same. Scott’s role will focus on capturing opportunities in the Middle East and Hong Kong economic corridor, emphasizing fintech development.
According to LinkedIn, Scott joined OneDegree as general counsel in 2021, a role he will maintain alongside his new responsibilities. His career began as a lawyer with Freshfields, working across their London, New York, and Hong Kong offices. He is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge.
“Robin is the ideal candidate to lead our expansion to the Middle East. He has a successful track-record executing ground-breaking projects, such as the group’s venture debt financing transaction with HSBC and partnership with Dubai Insurance, and a deep knowledge of the group’s solutions and strategy,” said Alvin Kwock, co-founder of OneDegree Group. “Many markets in the Middle East are showing incredible dynamism and opportunity, leveraging their favourable demographics and open policies for foreign investment and global talent. Robin will play a pivotal role in driving growth in the Middle East and delivering exceptional value to our clients.”
