NRMA Insurance has introduced Help Nation Preparedness Month this October, encouraging Australians to take action in preparing for extreme weather events.

The month-long initiative provides community events, workshops, and educational resources aimed at helping residents better understand local weather risks and implement strategies to reduce potential damage.

NRMA Insurance Help Nation Preparedness Month

As part of the campaign, NRMA – which positions itself as “A Help Company” – is partnering with key organisations such as the Australian Red Cross, Lifeline Australia, NSW Rural Fire Service, and South Australian State Emergency Service (SA SES) to enhance community education and preparedness efforts.

This comes as Australia enters its peak weather season, which is likely to bring an increase in storms and other extreme events.

Michelle Klein, chief customer and marketing officer at NRMA Insurance, highlighted the growing need for preparedness in light of more frequent severe weather conditions.

As part of the October initiative, NRMA branches in NSW will distribute free solar-powered torches, designed to be a useful addition to emergency kits.

The campaign will be promoted through a media partnership with Nine, managed by Initiative Media, which will deliver preparedness messages across television, radio, and digital platforms.

Additionally, NRMA will launch a video series on YouTube, providing practical advice for homeowners on how to protect their homes from extreme weather.

NMRA Insurance Home Health Check service

Alongside this, NRMA has introduced a “Home Health Check” service, offering customers tips and checklists to ensure regular home maintenance, which can reduce risks and help protect properties.

Klein said that the company wants to assist customers year-round by empowering them to take steps that reduce their risks in the first place.

“As an insurer, we’re here to help when the unexpected happens but we also strive to deliver value across the customer journey, and we know that educating and empowering customers on how they can minimise their risks is a key way we can help,” she said.

The preparedness campaign builds on NRMA Insurance’s Help Nation initiative, launched in November 2023, which seeks to unite Australians around the importance of weather preparedness.

Since its inception, over 300,000 individuals have taken part in preparedness efforts aimed at reducing the impact of severe weather.
