The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has announced the winners of two prominent awards at its annual convention, held on Oct. 21 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The awards recognise outstanding contributions in community service and claims management within the insurance broking profession.

2024 NIBA Community Excellence Member of the Year

Paul Reis (pictured), from Austbrokers Comsure, has been named the 2024 NIBA Community Excellence Member of the Year, with support from Liberty Specialty Markets.

The award is designed to acknowledge NIBA members who have made a significant impact in their communities beyond their typical broker duties.

The selection panel included industry representatives such as:

Richard Klipin, NIBA CEO
Emma Keegan from NIBA’s Vic Divisional Committee

Peter O’Leary, vice president of relationship management and marketing at Liberty Specialty Markets, noted Reis’s dedication, specifically highlighting his role as club chaplain for the Brisbane Lions Football Club and his efforts in raising awareness around issues like domestic violence, mental health, and personal loss.

“Paul has demonstrated a level of dedication that goes above and beyond in giving back to the community,” he said.

Richard Klipin expressed appreciation for Liberty Specialty Markets’s ongoing partnership with the award, stating: “Thank you to award partners Liberty Specialty Markets in helping shine a spotlight on those hidden community champions who have gone the extra mile in supporting their local community.”

Other finalists for the Community Excellence award included Don Shields of Geelong Insurance Brokers and Justine Keech from Yield Insurance.

2024 NIBA Claims Broker of the Year

Jenavee Holz-Cubby of Gallagher received the 2024 NIBA Claims Broker of the Year award, sponsored by Sedgwick.

The award celebrates brokers who excel in claims management and advocacy, delivering positive outcomes for clients while adhering to the principles of the Insurance Brokers Code of Practice.

McEnery praised Holz-Cubby for her exceptional skills in managing claims, noting her ability to foster strong relationships with clients and insurers.

“Jenavee showcased exceptional technical expertise in claims management and advocacy, along with a high level of professionalism in fostering relationships with clients and underwriters. Her extensive claims process and practice experience consistently led to improved client outcomes,” he said.

Klipin also thanked Sedgwick for their ongoing partnership, recognising the high calibre of all the finalists, and emphasised the award’s importance in highlighting brokers’ contributions to claims handling.

“Thank you to our valued award partner Sedwick. Now in its second year, this award continues to unearth exceptional talents that are making a real difference in the lives of their clients and the community through claims expertise,” he said.

Other finalists for the Claims Broker of the Year included Tracey Hind from Insurance House, Simon Bogli from Marsh McLennan, and Samantha Bellman from Integra Insurance Brokers.
