NIBA crowns NSW/ACT broker award winners

Report proposes 'self-funding' insurance model for export industries

Citadel Insurance Services Director Nicholas Bedggood and DLB Insurance + Risk Solutions MD Dean Bowen have won this year’s National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) awards for NSW/ACT, recognising excellence in the broking profession.

Mr Bedggood was named NSW/ACT Broker of the Year at the annual NIBA gala lunch in Sydney today. He competed against finalists Aon Placement Director Property Sarah Worpole and Intuitive Insurance Solutions MD Shane Thaw.

Mr Bowen was named NSW/ACT Young Broker of the Year. He competed against Principle Insurance MD Elliott Morris, Austbrokers Client Service Manager (Corporate & Commercial) Brian Compay and Ausure MD Sam Hunter.

“We congratulate Nicholas and Dean, and would like to acknowledge all the finalists who demonstrated a commitment to professionalism and ongoing improvement,” NIBA CEO Philip Kewin said.

“These awards are a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the calibre and accomplishments of the outstanding talent in the broking industry.”

This year’s two national winners, selected from the five regional award recipients in each category, will be announced in October.

NIBA’s national Broker of the Year receives the Stephen Ball Memorial Award, which is sponsored by QBE, and the Young Broker of the Year receives the Warren Tickle Memorial Award, sponsored by Vero.

“Nicholas has set a very high standard with his exceptional customer service and client advocacy at Citadel Insurance, and we commend him for his inspiring broking achievements,” QBE Australia Pacific GM Partnerships – Business Lorelle Hillman said.

Vero State Distribution Manager NSW/ACT Yusuf Alexander said Mr Bowen had forged an impressive career, running his own brokerage business since 2017.

“He is a talented young broker and has already built a reputation for high standards. Dean represents the best of the broking profession, and Vero is delighted to provide ongoing support to all brokers like him across the country.”

Tomorrow, the SA/NT gala lunch will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

In WA, FordSure Director Derek Ford was named 2022 Broker of the Year while Marsh Managing Principal Selena Piggott was named Young Broker of the Year.

In Queensland, WTW Property and Casualty Account Director Sally Coulton and Thompson Insurance Account Manager William Thompson took out the honours.

In Victoria/Tasmania, Gallagher Senior Account Executive Daniel Quintin and Aon/Affinity Insurance Brokers Client Manager Greg Shallard won.
