New Hampshire Insurance Department and New England College Announce Second Year of Innovative Insurance Industry Course

The New Hampshire Insurance Department (NHID) and New England College (NEC) proudly announce the continuation of a groundbreaking initiative as they launch the second year of an exclusive course aimed at equipping students with comprehensive insights into the insurance industry.

New Hampshire Department of Insurance

The course will delve into fundamental aspects such as risk nature, risk identification, general risk management techniques, and the art of risk management through insurance. The curriculum encompasses essential topics, including the rationale behind individual or corporate insurance purchases, the elements of an intelligent insurance plan, the array of products available in the insurance marketplace, and the regulatory oversight by the NHID.

“Our mission is to promote and protect the public good by ensuring a safe and competitive insurance marketplace,” said Insurance Commissioner DJ Bettencourt. “Attracting highly educated individuals into the industry is crucial for the health of our markets and the advancement of consumer protection efforts.”

“As the workforce continues to evolve, New England College is committed to providing our students with the tools and opportunity to succeed. This collaboration is just another example of that commitment,” said Dr. Wayne Lesperance, President of New England College.

Scheduled to commence in the Spring 2024 semester, the four-credit course offers students the prospect of participating in an internship for additional academic credit. The course will be facilitated by a team of seasoned insurance experts from the New Hampshire Insurance Department.

“Our experts collectively bring hundreds of years of insurance experience from both the public and private sectors,” said Deputy Insurance Commissioner Keith Nyhan. “We are enthusiastic about sharing this wealth of knowledge with students. The internship opportunities will provide students with extensive hands-on experience in the department’s operations and the insurance industry. Similar to the Webster Scholar Program at UNH Law, successful completion of the course and internship may lead to the waiver of the insurance licensing exam for students.”
