Global reinsurance firm MS Reinsurance has announced the appointment of Miguel Marin (pictured above) as its new head of data, with his hiring effective immediately.

Marin heads into the new role from Swiss Re, bringing with him decades of industry expertise. He served as head of business intelligence, data quality, and operations at the reinsurance giant, a role which saw him managing its data landscape transformation. In total, he honed his craft at the Swiss reinsurer for more than 20 years.

Prior to Swiss Re, Marin worked at Winterthur Insurance (member of AXA) for four years. There, he served as head of operation management in addition to other previous roles. His experience also includes positions at DBC-Winterthur and R+V Versicherung.

“As a reinsurer, data is the backbone of our risk assessment and decision-making processes. We are pleased to welcome Miguel to MS Reinsurance,” MS Reinsurance chief information and data officer Benedikt Schmid said. “His broad experience in building and managing data platforms, along with his extensive knowledge of the reinsurance industry, will be valuable assets as we continue to drive innovation and ensure we harness the power of data to deliver insights and value to our clients.”

MS Reinsurance highlighted the appointment as a commitment to leveraging advanced data technologies as it hones its efficiency.

Marin’s appointment follows other major high-profile hires for the global reinsurer. In May, the firm brought in Yasuko Fukuda and Frank Ellenbürger as third shareholder representative director and fourth independent director, respectively, to its supervisory board of directors.
