Millions transitioning to coverage

Apply now. 1 month to get 2022 Marketplace insurance

Published on January 8, 2014

Since October 1st, more than 6 million people have enrolled in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace® or Medicaid.

If you’ve completed an application and chosen a plan on the Marketplace, you may still need to take a couple of steps in order to ensure that your coverage takes effect. Most important, you need to pay your first month’s premium on time. Follow the instructions from your insurer about how and when to make your premium payment and the due date. You should also contact the plan you selected to confirm that enrollment has, in fact, taken place.

And, remember, there’s still time to enroll in quality health coverage. Sign-up today for coverage that begins February 1st.

If you have a question about coverage, you can contact us at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325). Our trained representatives are available at the Marketplace Call Center 24 hours a day 7 days a week if you need help. And we’ve also developed a number of consumer tips on HealthCare.gov to help you understand your new coverage.

Thanks to the Marketplace, millions of Americans have health insurance and access to care — many for the first time. We’ve been working hard to make the transition to coverage as smooth as possible, particularly for those getting coverage for the first time.

We’ve engaged with our partners, including the states, to handle coverage transition issues effectively, and we want to thank the plans, pharmacies, provider organizations and others who have shown such flexibility during the transition period and who mobilized their networks to assist during this time and to effectively engage with consumers who may have questions.

As we now move forward, we’re continuing to work to ensure that every American who wants to enroll in Marketplace coverage by the end of the open enrollment period on March 31st, 2014, is able to do so — and so enjoy the security and peace of mind that comes with having quality health coverage.
