Independent and private equity funded broking group, Miller has announced the hire of Shaun Sinniah from Guy Carpenter, who joins the firm as its new Head of Reinsurance and Capital.

Sinniah will be based in London for Miller and was most recently the Head of Placement & Distribution and Chief Operating Officer of reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter’s International & Global Specialties divisions.

Before that, Sinniah worked at Willis Re and became Managing Director, Global Head of Sales & Client Management. He had first joined the insurance industry after a time working at investment bank Goldman Sachs in London & Hong Kong.

The hire aligns with Miller’s “growth plans and accelerated reinsurance buildout” the broking group explained.

Miller intends to expand its reinsurance offering under Sinniah and the use of the word Capital in his title also suggests the broker could increase its emphasis on leveraging alternative and insurance-linked securities (ILS) capital for its clients.

Miller aims to build on its data driven approach to client service and enhanced strategic advisory capabilities, under the reinsurance segment.

Miller has made some senior reinsurance hires in recent months, in Bermuda, London and APAC, including the build out of a new APAC treaty reinsurance team.

Sinniah will also be tasked with contributing to and supporting Miller’s broader international strategy.

James Hands, CEO of Miller said, “We have a clear strategy to grow our reinsurance footprint in areas where it aligns with both client needs and our ambitious strategy. I’m delighted to be welcoming Shaun to the team as part of this. His wealth of experience will be invaluable as we continue to build out the reinsurance part of our business. Since 2022, Miller has launched 12 new teams and welcomed over 200 new employees. Bringing in experts such as Shaun will allow us to accelerate this exciting trajectory and bolster our specialty offerings.”

Sinniah added, “It’s an incredibly exciting time to join Miller, particularly as the organisation evolves towards becoming the long-term, trusted and stable advisor that clients are seeking. My focus will be on crafting solutions that not only meet, but anticipate the evolving needs of our clients, backed by Miller’s enviable service excellence and our long-term vision for sustainable growth.”
