Mercury Insurance has announced its latest findings that highlight several sedan models as some of the most cost-effective vehicles to purchase and insure.

By releasing a list of the most affordable new sedans to insure, Mercury aims to support budget-conscious consumers in making smart vehicle choices that align with their financial goals.

The selection of sedans was thoroughly evaluated by Mercury’s research and development team. The 2024 model year vehicles were chosen based on their availability in car dealerships today, along with factors such as historical insurance claims data, repair costs, and vehicle safety records. The list looks to provide a realistic guide to potential insurance costs.

Chong Gao, the director of product management R&D at Mercury Insurance, underscored the critical nature of considering the total ownership costs of a vehicle, with a particular focus on insurance.

“Understanding that vehicles with lower repair costs often lead to lower insurance premiums allows consumers to make informed decisions that could benefit them financially in the long run,” Gao noted. The initiative by Mercury is designed to direct consumers toward making choices that optimize their expenditures on vehicle insurance.

Here are the top ten most affordable sedans to insure, according to Mercury Insurance:

Chevrolet Spark
VW Golf
Hyundai Accent
Toyota Prius Prime
Mitsubishi Mirage
Volvo S90
Mazda 3
Nissan Versa
Hyundai Venue
Kia K5

Mercury’s approach to providing market insights includes evaluating a variety of coverage options and typical driver scenarios to compile their rankings. This method helps predict the insurance costs that consumers can expect when choosing any of the recommended sedan models.
