Claims services provider McLarens has outlined its carbon reduction strategy after obtaining the Planet Mark Business Certification, further underscoring its dedication to sustainability.

This certification recognises organisations worldwide that are committed to reducing their carbon footprint and making continuous environmental progress.

The Planet Mark Business Certification is a globally acknowledged standard that supports organisations in tracking and reducing their carbon emissions. It is a partner of the UN Race to Zero initiative and its certification methods are validated by government and business protocols, enhancing credibility in sustainability efforts.

In a concerted effort to improve its environmental impact, McLarens also collaborated with Planet Mark to measure and benchmark its carbon footprint. The firm is now committed to achieving an annual carbon reduction target of 5% and is actively contributing to nine of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its certification efforts.

McLarens notes that it has effectively measured, reported, and verified its scope 1, 2, and key elements of scope 3 carbon emissions with the assistance of Planet Mark. The company is further calculating its full scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions such as those from its supply chain.

Employing over 2000 staff across 45 countries, McLarens also announced that it is integrating sustainability into its core business operations and client services. The company’s ESG steering committee leads these initiatives, focusing on reducing water and energy consumption, waste management, and promoting renewable energy and sustainable transport options among employees.

Liz Tubb, group general counsel and head of McLarens’ Sustainability Committee, highlighted the significance of the certification.

“We are proud to announce that we are now a Planet Mark Certified Business. Sustainability and business go hand in hand. We care about our planet, and our actions speak louder than words,” Tubb said.

“With the help of Planet Mark, we achieved significant milestones in the measurement our current emissions and set targets for carbon reduction. This is an incredible achievement involving the entire business. At McLarens we acknowledge that we are on an ESG improvement journey. We are realistic yet we are ambitious. There’s a lot of discussion about sustainability and what appealed to us about the Planet Mark certification was its focus on making a tangible difference,” she said.

Steve Malkin, founder & chief executive officer of Planet Mark, also commented on the partnership and McLarens’ initiative towards sustainability.

“We are immensely proud to be working with McLarens and to see the progress they’re making as a leader of their industry to create effective sustainable change to their business. Our reporting empowers businesses to present their carbon footprint data clearly and comprehensibly,” he said.

“Operating at the centre of climate tech, advisory and legislation, our unified model helps businesses achieve tangible results that stand for meaningful climate action, giving businesses such as McLarens the confidence to communicate their sustainability efforts effectively. We look forward to working with McLarens in the years ahead to help guide them on their sustainability journey,” Malkin said.
