McGill and Partners, a boutique risk solutions and broking firm launched by former Aon President Steve McGill, has announced the arrival of Peter Stubbings, a well-regarded reinsurance and retrocession broking team leader who was previously at Aon.

Stubbings has joined the McGill Bermuda office as a Partner with a focus on reinsurance business.

The company said the hire reinforces its commitment to the Bermuda market and its long-term ambitions to be a leading player there, bringing new premiums to the island.

Stubbings was most recently the CEO of Global ReSpecialty at Aon, a broking division that has always had a particular focus on global retrocession opportunities, including industry-loss warranties (ILW’s) and other ILS fund or capital markets backed retro products.

He took on that Aon role in January 2019, prior to which he had worked at Guy Carpenter as Chairman of Bermuda for four years, and CEO of Continental Europe for the five years before that. He had also held senior roles at RK Carvill and Willis Re among others.

Peter Stubbings, Partner at McGill and Partners, commented on his hire, “I’m delighted to be joining the McGill and Partners team. The firm has rapidly built a stellar global reputation and continually looks at how it can do things differently and better. I’m looking forward to being part of this impressive growth story in Bermuda, a market that holds a key position in the global insurance and reinsurance industry.”

Kate Vacher, Partner and CEO of McGill and Partners Bermuda, said, “For us as a broker, direct access to the Bermudan market helps facilitate mutual success across all our offices and compound the firm’s significant growth. We are excited to see the hub grow over the next few years, and we have big ambitions to bring both new premiums to Bermuda, as well as employing local Bermudan talent.”

We are also known for having a hugely successful talent acquisition strategy and as part of this we’re committed to hiring the very best in local Bermudan staff.”

The company said that its expanding Bermuda team “cements its dedication to the market and will enhance its ability to provide its local and global clients with a best-in-class service and global market access.”

McGill and Partners established its Bermuda office in October 2021.
