Independent global specialty re/insurance broker McGill and Partners has announced plans to expand into the Nordic region with the opening of a new branch office in Sweden, subject to regulatory approvals.

The company explained that the move is part of the broker’s broader strategy to enhance its capabilities across key specialties and strengthen its position in the European market.

The new Swedish office will operate under McGill and Partners’ European entity. Initial hires for the branch include Jon Petursson (pictured above, left) and Wilhelm Westerstad (pictured above, right), who will join from WTW.

Both Petursson and Westerstad bring over 20 years of experience in developing specialty-focused business in the Nordics and beyond. They will take up their new roles after fulfilling their current contractual obligations.

Stephen Cross, CEO of McGill and Partners Europe, noted that the firm is focused on attracting top talent in markets with significant growth potential.

“We’re excited to be expanding our presence and capabilities in Europe with the opening of a Swedish office. With Jon and Wilhelm joining the team we will be able to draw on their deep expertise to provide market-leading solutions for our clients and trading partners in the region, while we continue to attract like-minded individuals to our rapidly expanding firm,” Cross said.

The expansion is part of McGill and Partners’ push for growth, including recent hires in the US property market. In April, the firm appointed Duncan Milne and Cabot Lyman as partners in its US property unit.

Milne, who previously served as Greater New York property leader at Aon, took on the role of US property head, bringing more than 16 years of industry experience to McGill and Partners. Lyman, who joined Aon in 2013 and was senior vice president and team leader in the property practice, now serves as a US property partner at McGill and Partners.
