Medicare is a wonderful tool that can help individuals over 65 — and even younger individuals who qualify for Medicare — gain access to the medications and specialists they need. However, Medicare might not cover every medical necessity, such as long-term care.

That’s when the Manhattan Life Insurance Company comes into play. A Manhattan Life Medigap plan can help you pay for some healthcare costs that aren’t covered by your Medicare plan.

What Medicare Supplement coverages does Manhattan Life provide?

Everyone has different needs regarding financial assistance and healthcare. Fortunately, Manhattan Life recognizes that and offers a variety of Medicare Supplement plans. It is vital that you do not confuse Medicare with the similarly named program, Medicaid.

While both of these programs assist individuals with gaining access to necessary health care, Medicaid is supported by both the federal government and state governments. In addition, unlike Medicare, this program doesn’t have an age restriction and is available to people who have a limited income.

Manhattan Life doesn’t provide any supplemental plans for Medicaid. However, this company does offer five different Medicare Supplement options for you to choose from:

Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan A
Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan C
Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan F
Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan G
Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan N

Each of these plans has unique selling points. Therefore, let’s take a closer look at what they have to offer Manhattan Life clients, so you can discover the plan that best suits your needs.

Plan A

You can use Plan A to assist with the expenses you accrue by staying in either a hospital or in hospice for a long duration. In addition, your first three pints of blood for the year will also be covered by this plan.

Plan C

Plan C offers much more coverage. For example, if you are concerned about the costs of skilled nursing facilities, this plan not only covers the coinsurance for such costs but can also provide assistance with your Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles.

Plan F

As one of the most comprehensive plans offered by Manhattan Life, Plan F covers your coinsurance and deductible amounts as well as any emergency medical care you receive while traveling abroad.

Plan G

Manhattan Life’s Plan G provides financial assistance for a variety of items like Part A hospice care coinsurance, your first three pints of blood, and a nursing facility coinsurance.

Plan N

While Plan N will help you to cover the cost of your Part A deductible and your hospice care coinsurance, it will not provide coverage for your Part B deductible.

It’s important to note that Manhattan Life’s Plan C and Plan F aren’t available to individuals who became eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020. Manhattan Life also provides no coverage for Medicare Part D, which covers medications. Private companies sell such policies, and if you take a lot of prescription medications, you can request quotes from companies like Kaiser Permanente or Humana.

The rates of Manhattan Life’s Medicare Supplement plans are not shared directly with the public, so you must reach out to a Manhattan Life agent to discover the going rate for each plan.

How much does Medicare cost?

Remember that Medicare doesn’t absolve you from making payments for your medical care. While you’ll need to request a quote to learn the rates of Manhattan Life’s Medicare Supplements, you can start budgeting for your Medicare payments right away.

Typically, individuals who qualify for Medicare won’t have to set aside funds in order to afford Medicare Part A. However, if you didn’t pay Medicare taxes for 30 quarters or more, you could pay $499 a month. You should also note that you may pay $170.10 for Medicare Part B, but that figure could change depending on your total income.

You’ll also need to budget for the $1,556 deductible that accompanies each benefit period, and the average $33.37 monthly rate of most Medicare Part D plans. Medicare Part D plans are sold through private companies, though, so you can shop around to find the best Part D plan for your budget. You’ll also need to be prepared to pay for anything that Medicare doesn’t cover if you don’t have a Medicare Supplement plan.
