Ledger Investing hires Amy Stern as Chief Executive, Reinsurance

Ledger Investing, the insurance technology (insurtech) and insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused company, has added a new senior hire, taking experienced ceded reinsurance executive and leader Amy Stern from data-driven insurer Pie, to fill the new role of Chief Executive, Reinsurance.

Ledger adopts a technology-led approach to making risks investable and has enabled third-party capital providers to back almost $2 billion in casualty premium so far and the company is a pioneer in the burgeoning casualty ILS space.

Stern has had a diverse and varied career focused on reinsurance and capital management, ranging from working as a broker, to a reinsurance buyer and risk capital manager.

She began her career working at Zurich Insurance in New York as a VP of Group Reinsurance in 1996. Then in 2002 Stern joined PartnerRe working in its New Solutions division, before joining Willis Re and Willis Capital Markets & Advisory in 2004.

In 2010, Stern joined Berkley Re as an SVP, then joined AIG as its Chief Ceded Reinsurance Officer in 2013, spending five years at the company.

In 2018, Stern established her own consultancy ReFlexion LLC, to provide bespoke consulting services to the re/insurance industry, including on reinsurance and third-party capital use.

In 2019, Stern became a Managing Director at FTI Consulting focused on reinsurance and alternative capital consulting and advisory, before then joining insurtech Pie Insurance in 2021 and becoming its SVP for Risk and Reinsurance.

With expertise across the risk and capital tower, including in capital markets and third-party capital, working with ILS markets, Stern has a strong background to assist Ledger Investing as the company continues to build-out a specialism in connecting investors with the returns of casualty insurance risk premiums.
