Insurtech platform Insurwave has announced the appointment of Mark Costin as commercial director.

In his new role, Costin will be based in London and will lead Insurwave’s engagement with global corporations that have intricate risk exposure, with a specific focus on the aviation sector, as well as the broader insurer and broker community that supports them.

Costin has more than three decades of aviation insurance experience. Previously, he served as a partner and co-founder of Piiq Risk Partners, a brokerage that specializes in providing risk management and transfer solutions to large aviation companies. He also held the position of CEO of Marsh’s global aviation business and has held various leadership roles at both Marsh and Willis Aviation.

Insurwave, launched in 2017, provides insurance buyers with a platform that consolidates and visualizes their risk data, empowering them to make informed transfer decisions. UK-based Insurwave was acquired by Chicago-headquartered IncubEx in 2021.

The company’s software-as-a-service platform enables real-time collection and aggregation of data on risk assets, allowing corporates to gain a better understanding of their risk exposure and proactively manage their insurance programs. Additionally, it equips them to respond swiftly and decisively to global events.

“I believe the insurance industry is finally at a tipping point in terms of technology adoption, and see a strong desire from clients, in aviation and elsewhere, to leverage data and technology to make their lives easier and enable better business outcomes,” Corstin said. “I’ve always been passionate about helping bring about change and I’m excited to engage clients with the Insurwave platform and show them what a step-change this can be.”

“We’re delighted Mark has agreed to come on board,” said David Power, CEO of Insurwave. “Aviation is a key sector for us, and when we worked with Mark client-side he was a real supporter and advocate for the platform, so he was a natural choice for us as we continue to invest in the growth of our business. We’ll benefit from Mark’s experience and expertise across the full breadth of the company, from product design to client engagement, and he will undoubtedly help strengthen our relationships with the aviation market and beyond.”
