InsurOpEd: Starting A New Chapter in My Life

After 30+ Years in the Insurance Industry Tara Philbin is Saying Goodbye to Insurance

I am excited to share some significant news about a new chapter in my life. After 30 years in the insurance industry, I have decided to step away from my current role at Salem Five to pursue a passion that is incredibly close to my heart.

As many of you know, dogs have always been a lifelong passion of mine. For years, I have had the privilege of volunteering, raising money, and spreading awareness for senior and handicapped dogs facing challenges finding a forever home. This volunteer work has been deeply rewarding and has increasingly become a calling that I can no longer ignore. I am thrilled to announce the launch of Gus & The Misfits, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for local dog rescues with senior and special needs dogs, while promoting our mission of “Adopt, Don’t Shop”.

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to Salem Five. I am proud of the contributions I have made and the relationships I have built this past year. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our incredible leader, CEO Ping Yin Chai. Also, to my incredible colleagues, EVP Helen Toper and SVP Bruce Potter, for the opportunity to conclude my insurance career on such a positive note. It is not easy for me to leave such a wonderful organization, especially knowing that my departure comes with some disappointment. They made it exceedingly difficult for me to say goodbye. It is a wonderful place to work, and I cannot express my gratitude enough. However, I believe that following my passion for dogs and their well-being is the right path for me.

I leave with a full heart, confident that the current insurance leadership team-Jane Efraimson, Connie Oliverio, and Tony Perry-share the same values and vision I hold for a healthy work environment, where integrity, respect, and transparency are at the forefront of agency culture. With over 30 years of experience in managing family-owned independent insurance agencies and extensive expertise in insurance sales training, customer service, mentoring, and coaching, this team is poised for success!

For those considering selling your agency, I urge you to look at Salem Five. You will not find a better leadership team than the current leaders at Salem Five Insurance.
Lastly, I would like to thank my dad, Andrew Philbin. Working with my dad for over 30 years has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I have witnessed my dad start and run numerous successful businesses. His lust for new business adventures has inspired me to take this new path. His unwavering confidence in me and the freedom he gave me to run our agency as I saw fit have shaped not only my career but the person I am today. I love him deeply for his trust, guidance, and the bond we have built over the years.

I look forward to staying in touch with many of you and sharing updates on my new journey with Gus & The Misfits!
