Insurers to hold another round of meetings with flood policyholders

29 August 2022

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has arranged another round of meetings in the coming weeks for flood-impacted communities in NSW and south-east Queensland to discuss claims with insurers.

ICA announced today the itinerary for the meetings, saying the in-person interactions are an opportunity for customers to discuss the progress of their claim, and to work through any sticking points or issues they may be experiencing with their insurer at a time that suits them.

The peak body and its insurer members will hold its first meeting next Monday in Sandgate, Brisbane North, followed by one in rural Queensland town Gatton the following day.

ICA says the meetings will resume again in NSW in the week of September 19, starting first in Mullumbimby, followed by Casino (September 20), Ballina (September 21) and Lismore (September 22).

The meetings will be held from midday to 8pm.

“It is six months on from the severe weather that impacted so many people’s lives in south-east Queensland and northern NSW,” ICA CEO Andrew Hall said.

“The ICA and insurers will be travelling to some of the most impacted communities to talk to customers face-to-face, providing an opportunity to discuss the specific details of claims and the claims process.”

Mr Hall says many customers welcomed the opportunity in May to meet with their insurers for in-person consultations after experiencing the second costliest natural disaster in Australian history. The NSW/Queensland event is also the most expensive insured flood disaster, at $5.28 billion.

“Customers value the opportunity to clarify different parts of the insurance process, talk timelines and receive updates about their own claim directly from their insurer,” Mr Hall said.

ICA says the industry is also holding virtual meetings from September 12-16 from 9am to 4pm for customers to talk by phone or video.

Bookings are essential for the in-person and virtual meetings.
