Insureit Group chief executive and president David Palermo (pictured centre) has driven a record-breaking fundraiser for the Baycrest Pro-Am charity event.

Teams representing Palermo’s brokerage raised $211,143, surpassing the initial goal of $150,000. Overall, the event raised $1.4 million for Alzheimer’s research and patient care – an “unprecedented success” for the initiative.

Palermo’s passion for hockey began with his first pair of skates, a gift from his parents. His love for the sport, combined with his family’s tradition of helping others through insurance, led him to support Alzheimer’s disease research. In 2022, Palermo partnered with research hospital Baycrest.

“This isn’t just a game; this is personal for me,” declared the top fundraiser, whose family has a history of the disease. “Through our contributions, we support specialized care, innovative therapies, and cutting-edge research, all aimed at empowering patients to thrive.”

Palermo also expressed pride in past achievements, noting last year’s goal of $75,000 was exceeded, raising over $132,000. The Insureit CEO also acknowledged the generosity of those who took part this year. “Your support was crucial in achieving this milestone; I am so grateful for each and every one of you,” he said.

“Dave’s commitment to the Baycrest tournament and helping Alzheimer’s is absolutely incredible,” NHL alum and Hall of Famer Mark Recchi commented. “He is so passionate about helping this great charity event out.”
