Nualphan Lamsam, known as a leading figure in the insurance sector, has been appointed as the president of the Football Association of Thailand (FA).

The appointment marks a historic milestone, with Lamsam being the first female to navigate the organisation.

Election process

According to a report by Nation Thailand, the decision came to light following a vote on Thursday where Lamsam – also known as “Madame Pang” – garnered substantial support from FA delegates, securing 68 of the 73 votes. This overwhelming majority confirmed her position as the 18th leader of the FA.

Lamsam’s journey to the presidency saw her competing against a variety of candidates, including:

Polleen Ngampring, founder of the CheerThai fan group;
Warong Thiwthat, former match secretary for the Thai League;
Thanasak Suraprasert, who holds the position of current FA vice president; and
Wang-ong Napalai, football commentator.

Who is Nualphan Lamsam?

Holding dual roles in the sports and business arenas, Lamsam is at the helm of Muang Thai Life Insurance as its CEO and owns Port FC, a premier team in Thailand’s top football division. Her election was highly anticipated due to her longstanding commitment and contribution to the national football team.

Lamsam has a focused agenda to address key challenges within Thai League 3 during her tenure. Her plan includes initiatives to improve financial viability, tackle copyright issues effectively, and devise innovative approaches to boost football viewership in the country’s provincial areas, aiming to rejuvenate interest and support for the sport across Thailand.
