In Memoriam: Anne M. Sheridan, 1923-2024Anne M Sheridan

Anne M. Sheridan of Melrose and Dedham, passed on March 31, 2024 at the age of 100. The daughter of Frank and Emily (Sweeney) Sheridan, she is survived by her brother Philip of Brandon, FL. She was also sister to the late Francis, William, Arthur, Walter, Peter and Paul and long-time best friend Dolores Crowley of Dedham, MA

Born in Melrose, she graduated from Melrose High School in 1941 and attended Malden Business School.

Anne was extremely active and was always involved in many activities. She was the basketball coach at St. Mary’s in Melrose, senior girl scout leader and attended National Scout Leaders training in New York and led her troop to installing the Girl Scout Stone in the Cathedral in the Pines in Rindge, NH. She also served as a Red Cross nurse’s aide during WWII. Later on in life she was president of the St. Susanna’s Women’s Club of Dedham and started a pen pal correspondence program with the 4th grade students at the Riverdale School in Dedham.

As for insurance, Anne spent the entirety of her career in the Massachusetts insurance industry, retiring as the Vice President, Alexander & Alexander Insurance Brokerage House. Over the course of her career, she was elected the President of the Massachusetts Insurance Women of Massachusetts and named Insurance Woman of the Year. She was also elected as the President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Massachusetts and was the first woman to be elected to the Board in its 79-year history.

Anne spent her retirement years with winters in Florida and enjoyed activities and socializing with her many friends. She would tell her many nieces and nephews “I’ve had many titles in my career, but my best title was “aunt”. She will be sadly missed.
