Kevin O’Brien, president and CEO of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) has announced he will step down from his position on Jan. 31, 2025.
O’Brien informed IMUA’s officers of his decision during a recent executive committee meeting, concluding his 14-year tenure at the association to pursue opportunities outside the organization.
IMUA is a trade association representing the inland marine insurance industry, focusing on advocating for the industry’s interests and providing professional development for industry professionals. The association supports 54 member insurance companies, 45 associate members, and more than 4,000 employees.
During his leadership, O’Brien spearheaded initiatives that expanded IMUA’s influence and enhanced member services. He played a key role in launching remote education and e-learning programs, which have become central to IMUA’s mission.
His efforts also strengthened the financial stability of the association and increased membership, positioning IMUA as a leader in professional development within the industry.
Reflecting on his time with IMUA, O’Brien highlighted his two main goals when he took on the role: to establish IMUA as a standard for professional development and to strengthen the organization’s financial foundation. He noted that membership is at an all-time high, with the addition of five national brokers, and that the association’s financial position has improved.
He also pointed to the success of the All Access Learning platform, which offers complimentary remote education, and the increase in attendance at the Annual Meeting, from 200 to over 400 participants.
O’Brien expressed optimism about the association’s future, with the upcoming launch of a new Association Management System and an integrated Learning Management System.
IMUA, founded in 1930, is the national association for the commercial inland marine insurance industry. Representing over 90% of commercial inland marine insurers, the association provides professional development programs, research, industry bulletins, and analysis to its members.
