icare is inviting the public to join SafeWork NSW and Unions NSW in a memorial service that honours the memory of individuals who have died due to workplace incidents or diseases.

This event aligns with the International Day of Mourning on April 28, a global day of remembrance for workers who have lost their lives on the job. The 2024 ceremony, however, is slated for Monday, April 29.

The service aims to underscore a collective responsibility toward enhancing workplace safety and preventing such tragedies. It will feature addresses by political and religious leaders, intended to offer comfort and support to those in mourning.

The event will also include a personal story shared by a family member who has suffered a loss, bringing to light the human aspect behind the statistics of workplace fatalities.

The insurer stated that family members and friends affected by workplace fatalities are invited to participate in a ceremony that not only commemorates their loved ones but also symbolises a shared commitment to worker safety.

“icare invites families and friends who have lost a loved one to attend the service,” icare said. “You may wish to place a photo or message on the Memorial Lines sculpture. A light lunch will be held immediately after the service at a nearby venue.”
