ICA announces date change for Lismore insurer-customer meetings


The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and insurers will soon visit flood-impacted areas in northern New South Wales (NSW) for in-person meetings with customers affected by the recent floods and severe weather.

However, please inform your customers that the ICA has changed the date of the Lismore in-person meetings from September 22 (Thursday) to September 27 (Tuesday) to acknowledge and observe the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.

The other dates for in-person meetings are:


September 19 (Monday) at Ex-Services Club, Mullumbimby;
September 20 (Tuesday) at RSM Club, Casino; and
September 21 (Wednesday) at Ballina RSL Club, Ballina.

Commenting on the insurer-customer meetings, ICA CEO Andrew Hall said: “The ICA and insurers encourage policyholders impacted by the flood and severe weather earlier this year to take the opportunity to make a booking and meet in-person with their insurer to discuss the specific details of their claims and receive updates on the claims process.”

The catastrophic flooding in southeast Queensland and northern NSW in February-March 2022 cost a whopping $5.275 billion, making it Australia’s costliest flood and third-costliest natural disaster. Insurers have received around 233,100 claims related to the weather event across both states.

Lismore, one of the affected areas in NSW, has implemented some initiatives to help its communities get back on their feet. In May, Lismore City Council released a discussion paper outlining recommendations to help the city “build back better.” Most recently, flood-affected residents received the first round of grants from the Flood Appeal Committee, and the city council collaborated with its business partners to provide computers to flood-affected businesses.
