The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) has announced its new board line-up, after the 2024/2025 directors were sworn in on April 18.

Isure president and chief executive Dario Battista, who first joined the IBAO board in the spring of 2022, was appointed president of the IBAO.

“I’m honoured to serve as IBAO president,” said Battista, whose brokerage has received accolades such as IBAO’s Brokerage of the Year in 2021 and Innovator of the Year in 2015.

“The association’s work is so important for the continued health of Ontario’s broker channel and ensuring the fair treatment of consumers,” Battista said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play my part in that mission while working alongside such a talented group.”

Suzanne Pountney, CL manager at Ontario West and Bill Blaney Insurance Brokers, now holds the position of IBAO chair. Board newcomer Laura Higgins of Meadwell Mowat & Fennell took the position of Central East territory director.

Another significant appointment to the board is Crystal Underhill, director of operations and new business development vice president at Reith & Associates.

PAIB Insurance president Dan Ayotte continues his service after being re-elected in March as the director for the North Western and North Eastern territories.

Meanwhile, the board terms of Joseph Carnevale of Gallagher and Greg Kruk of Sentinel Risk Insurance Group ended.

“The contributions of both Joseph and Greg to the IBAO and Ontario’s broker channel are immeasurable,” IBAO chief operating officer Brett Boadway said. “They helped guide us through many challenges, for which we cannot thank them enough. Their presence will be greatly missed.”

IBAO chief executive Colin Simpson added: “We rely on our volunteer board of directors’ expertise to help guide our strategic oversight and represent IBAO in their respective geographies. We welcome our 2024/25 board, and we’re excited for the direction of its new leadership.”
