IAG motor insurance brand ROLLiN’  has introduced Safe ‘n Save, a novel initiative designed to incentivise safe driving practices through monthly premium discounts.

ROLLiN’ was established by the giant insurer in 2021 and, according a company media release, has “redefined” the car insurance landscape by providing month-to-month policies, characterised by the absence of lock-in contracts or cancellation fees.

New mobile app

Safe ‘n Save, suggested the release, represents a pioneering entry into the Australian insurance market, as the first mobile-only, pay-how-you-drive insurance product.

The mobile application, integral to Safe ‘n Save, utilises advanced technology to detect and record driving data. It then translates this data into tangible rewards, offering customers with a commendable driving score a discount of up to 15% on their subsequent month’s premium.

Currently catering to business-use insurance customers, the app will be offered to all ROLLiN customers in the foreseeable future.

Promoting safe driving habits

ROLLiN’ executive manager Brendan Griffiths (pictured above) noted that the innovation serves a dual purpose – promoting safe driving habits while offering customers an avenue to save money.

The app analyses driver performance on the road, said the release, including acceleration, speeding, braking, taking corners, and phone use. Afterwards, the app calculates the data to provide real-time insights and generates an overall policy score after 30 days.

The app relies on a smartphone’s GPS, accelerometer, and gyroscope to gauge driver behaviour, catering to customers seeking flexibility, affordability, and a non-conventional car insurance product aligned with their preferences and lifestyle.

“The result is simple – if you’re a safe driver, you get rewarded with a discount on your car insurance premium,” Griffiths said. “Through this innovation, we are encouraging safe driving as well as helping our customers to save money. It’s a win-win.”

During the initial three-month phase, about 75% of app users received discounts, said the release, underscoring the effectiveness of the program.
