Incoming chief assumes role on June 24

International specialist insurer Hiscox has appointed Mary Boyd as chief executive of Hiscox USA. Succeeding Kevin Kerridge, who is leaving at the end of September, Boyd will assume the post on June 24. From then, Kerridge will serve in an advisory capacity before he exits to explore other opportunities.

Boyd is making the switch from home and auto insurance provider Plymouth Rock Assurance, where she led the independent agency business as CEO from 2018. She brings more than 30 years of experience to Hiscox, having led various businesses through significant transformations. Boyd’s career began in actuarial roles and progressed through leadership positions at The Hartford, ACE, Explorer Insurance, and Chubb.

Commenting on her upcoming remit, Boyd said: “I am thrilled to join Hiscox and lead this talented team to its next series of successes. Aki has communicated a clear strategic vision to serve the insurance needs of small business owners across the US, reinforced by a consistent commitment to our partners and continued investment in technology capabilities.

“I am energized by the opportunity to work alongside our team to drive innovation and profitable growth in this market.”

She was referring to Aki Hussain, group chief executive of Hiscox, who noted: “Mary’s knowledge and expertise in the insurance industry are exceptional, and I am delighted to be welcoming her to the Hiscox business. Her wealth of experience building and leading insurance businesses in the USA, and her deep understanding of the US customer market, will be instrumental in scaling our US business as we seize the opportunity ahead.”

Boyd’s predecessor, meanwhile, is saying goodbye to Hiscox after nearly three decades with the company.

“Kevin was key to the start of our digital journey 25 years ago and has been at the center of building the Hiscox digital offering into the powerhouse it is today,” Hussain stated. “We are immensely grateful for the deep expertise and drive that Kevin has brought to our business over his time here, and we wish him all the best with his next steps.”
