International specialist insurer Hiscox has announced the appointment of Jonathan Bloomer as chair designate.

Bloomer brings with him a proven track record in leading financial services organisations. He previously served as a partner at Arthur Andersen before joining Prudential Plc in 1995 where he initially held the position of chief financial officer and later became chief executive from 2000 to 2005. His final executive role was as an operating partner at Cerberus.

Additionally, Bloomer has extensive board director experience and currently serves as chair of Morgan Stanley International, DWF Group Plc, and SDL Group Holdings Limited.

“After an extensive search I am delighted to have led the process that resulted in the nominations and governance committee selecting Jonathan as the board’s next chair,” Hiscox senior independent director Colin Keogh said in a release. “We will benefit from his experience and leadership, and we are all very much looking forward to working with him.”

Bloomer is set to join the Hiscox board on June 1, while outgoing chair Robert Childs will retire on July 1.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Rob once again for the immense contributions he has made during his long and distinguished career, not only to Hiscox but to the wider industry,” added Keogh. “He has navigated many insurance cycles, mentored many underwriters, and leaves a legacy of integrity and strong results. We wish him all the best for the future.”

“He joins the group at an exciting time, with a range of opportunities ahead for continued profitable growth,” said Childs.

Aki Hussain, Hiscox Group CEO, shared a similar sentiment regarding Bloomer’s appointment, stating that he “very much” looks forward to working with the chair designate.

“His deep experience in driving international growth and managing complexity across a range of financial services companies and other businesses will be extremely valuable to us,” said Hussain.

In his response to the appointment, Bloomer also shared his delight in joining Hiscox, describing it as “a great company with a distinctive culture and an exciting future.”
