HCF has launched what it claims is a health insurance industry-first QR code claiming solution for extras services to make the claims process more efficient.

The QR code claiming solution is a joint initiative between HCF and HICAPS, a lhealthcare claiming solution. It aims to enable HCF members to make on-the-spot claims for extras services by scanning a QR code available through the HCF Membership app at new HICAPS Trinity terminals, providing an alternative to using its physical membership card.

“We know that when people are out and about, they’re increasingly using their mobile phones for purchases, to tap for transport, and even to order food, so we wanted to create an innovative solution to extend that convenience to visiting extras health services providers as well,” said HCF CEO Sheena Jack. “Working together with HICAPS to develop this innovative feature demonstrates our passion for providing outstanding service and care.”

HCF and NAB test QR code claiming solution

The contactless QR code claims are being trialled in a pilot by HCF staff and NAB corporate members. If successful, the solution will be available to HCF’s membership base later this year.

Mark Raymer, executive, merchant services, at NAB commented: “Traditionally, Australian healthcare payment systems have been complex, which has led to substandard payment experiences for patients and difficulties for healthcare providers.

“QR code claiming is a significant step forward and one we believe will help markedly improve the overall claims and payments experience. The rollout of our new, state-of-the-art HICAPS Trinity terminals is progressing at pace, and with more than 20,600 already in market, we’re on schedule to fully transition all providers to our new terminals over the next few months.”

HICAPS CEO Simon Terry said the partnership with HCF was essential to the successfully delivery the new QR code claiming system.

“We have built a strong relationship with HCF over the years, and we’re delighted to have had the opportunity to work together with the HCF team to deliver this new digital solution for its members,” Terry said. “We believe it will vastly improve the end user experience for both customers and healthcare providers alike, and we look forward to making it available to all HCF members – as well as the wider Australian healthcare sector – later this year.”
