Boston, Massachusetts (February 8, 2024)—At its November 2023 meeting, the Board of Trustees of The Insurance Library Association of Boston elected Sonya M. Ross, CPCU, ARM, as President and Board chair. Ross is Director, Risk Strategy & Financing, in the Harvard University office of Risk Management & Audit Services. In addition, the board also elected Edward J. Donahue, Jr. (Aflac), as First Vice President, Ann F. Lamson (Quincy Mutual Group), as Second Vice President, Nancy D. Adams (Mintz), as Counsel, Meredith K. Mangan, CPCU (AIG), as Immediate Past President, and Michael A. Pezza Jr. as Secretary.
“For more than a century, the Insurance Library has been not only the keeper of historical insurance-related treasures and lore, but perhaps more importantly, the premier source of insurance education, research, and networking for the Boston area insurance, risk management and legal communities. I’ve seen exciting and transformational things happening at the Library over the past few years and I’m honored to take on this role to help steward the evolution of the Library while preserving its core mission,” said Ross after her election. “I look forward to working with fellow board members, our new Executive Director and staff, and our community as the Library continues to evolve and expand its reach and resources. If there ever was a doubt, I guess this officially makes me an insurance geek.”
Ross has a diverse background and experience in transforming risk culture and building global insurance programs in a variety of industries, including higher education, real estate, retail, manufacturing, and private equity. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Durham, and in addition to holding the CPCU and ARM designations, Ross received an ERM Fellow designation from the Enterprise Risk Management Initiative at the Poole College of Management at NC State University. Before joining Harvard in 2022, Ross was Director of Risk Services at Northeastern University, and previously held various positions at Aon Risk Solutions, InterContinental Risk Management Consulting, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., and Albert Risk Management Consultants.
Separately, at the Library’s annual membership meeting, members re-elected Mangan along with trustees D. Peter Brennan (PwC), Amy L. DiPerna (The Andover Companies), and Michael B. Weinberg (Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP) to three-years terms as members of the Board of Trustees, re-elected Brennan as Treasurer, and elected Pezza as Clerk of the corporation.
