QBE Foundation and the Sydney Swans raised around $75,000 at its annual Goals for Good charity game event at Saturday’s AFL clash between the Sydney Swans and Fremantle Dockers. QBE Foundation is the charity arm of QBE Insurance Group.

During the charity game, the QBE Foundation pledged $3,000 for each of the 14 goals that the Sydney Swans scored but ended up bagging around $75,000 in donations.

The money raised will be split between the QBE Foundation and the Sydney Swan Foundation, Jon Fox, QBE Foundation co-chair, said in a statement.

Last year, after the Swans recorded a 171-point victory and kicked 31 goals against West Coast, the QBE Foundation donated $93,000. The 2021 Goals for Good game raised $70,000 in of donations.

Fox expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that the game is an “enjoyable way” for the QBE to continue its support of community partners.

“Our partnership with the Sydney Swans, spanning almost four decades, has given us an amazing opportunity to support the communities and causes that are important to both our organisations. [And] we’re proud to continue this essential work through this year’s QBE Foundation Goals for Good initiative, and help create strong, resilient, and inclusive communities,” Fox said.

Save the Children Australia, Stars Foundation, Australian Red Cross, Orange Sky, and R U OK? will benefit from the donations raised for the Goals for Good event.

Volunteers from the Australian Red Cross, Orange Sky, and R U OK? formed the Guard of Honour at the game. This, according to Fox, provided “a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication of those who support our communities.”

“QBE is honoured to stand alongside our community partners, whose dedication to fostering positive change is truly inspiring. Together, we strive to build stronger, more resilient, and inclusive communities,” said Fox.

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said that the game served as an opportunity to bring people together for a worthy cause.

“QBE’s Goals for Good is a terrific initiative to give back to organisations who are doing vital work in the community. As a token of our gratitude for their exceptional commitment, we hosted some of these community organisations and their dedicated volunteers at our game on Saturday. On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank QBE for their support,” Harley said.
